BACKGROUND & CREDENTIALS
Joe holds a bachelor’s in nutrition and a master’s in exercise physiology from the University of Florida. He is certified through NASM as a Personal Trainer, Nutrition Coach and Corrective Exercise Specialist, holds a NASM stretching certification, and is a certified USA Weightlifting coach. Seven years of coaching, a year and a half of it at SST.
THE ORIGIN STORY
He was an athlete first, and saw directly how much weight training changed what his body could do. The other half was his father — out of shape, and Joe wanted him healthy enough to be around for his grandkids.
He didn’t know coaching was a career until he was already working a customer service job and getting yelled at down a phone line. Someone mentioned a cousin who was a strength coach. “That really piqued my interest — the place I love to go to every single day, which was the gym, and actually now we have a job and help other people get better and stronger and faster.”
HIS COACHING STYLE
He’ll give you a hard workout and push you safely — and he’ll explain why every exercise is in your program, because he wants you to leave knowing how to train, not just having trained. “Oh, Joe helped me. He taught me everything. Now I feel comfortable in the gym. I can make my own workout.”
The other half is deliberate: he jokes around, and he wants clients to forget they’re at the gym at all. Most people don’t want to be there, and he’d rather they had a good time and noticed the work afterwards.
He’ll work with anyone — athletes chasing sport performance, older clients who want to live longer and move well, people training for how they look, and anyone who needs the nutrition side handled too.
CLIENT SUCCESS STORIES
A young baseball player came to him at 120 pounds wanting to get bigger and faster for his season. He’s now 180 pounds of muscle, has taken his squat from 120 to close to 300, and went from probably not making a team to playing on one of the top high school baseball programs in Pinellas County.
Another client, older, wanted nothing more than to be comfortable in a gym and to understand how to put a program together. Two or three months later she ran a 5K and finished it.
His proudest moment isn’t a single client: it’s the ones who message him two years after they stopped training with him to say they’re still going.
BEYOND THE GYM
He has a fourteen-month-old son. Hockey is his sport to watch, and he runs long distance — 10Ks and half marathons.
